WHAT'S NEW?

We are now an EXPERIMENTAL STATION FOR RESEARCH AND PRODUCTION, belonging to the FOREST RESEARCH AND MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE

We have
A NEW LABORATORY
Topics:
Molecular Genetics in forest trees: Evaluation of genetic diversity of main native forest species, using molecular genetic markers (chloroplastic and mitochondrial DNA)
Biotechnology: in vitro cultures for forest and ornamental trees (advanced technics of micropropagation, ex situ conservation of genetic resources, somaclonal selection for adaptive traits).

A NEW RESEARCH TEAM

Ing. Flaviu POPESCU, the chief of Research Station, was trained in INRA Bordeaux in Molecular Genetics, for the study of genetic diversity at molecular level, using chloroplastic DNA.
Dr. biol. Magdalena PALADA-NICOLAU, specialist in plant tissue cultures of crop and forest species and plant embryology (trained at AFOCEL, France in Norway spruce somatic embryogenesis and cryopreservation) came from Forest Research and Management Institute Bucharest, bringing the "in vitro cultures laboratory".
Ana IORDAN, the new technician for both molecular genetics and biotechnology.

NEW LAB FACILITIES

The most of facilities for the plant tissue culture laboratory were brought from Forest Research and Management Institute of Bucharest: sterilization equipment, media preparation equipment and chemicals.
An incubation room with controlled light temperature was installed.
A performant laminar air-flow bench class 100 was purchased with founds from the IPGRI Project "Genetic resources in hardwoods from south-eastern Europe.
The equipment for molecular genetics (PCR, electrophoresis line, incubation shaker, centrifuge, etc.) was provided by INRA - France, as a part of an INCO-COPERNICUS Program.
